HOOPS AND HIGHLIGHTS

Gainesville Basketball Tournaments at Alachua County Sports and Event Center

Gainesville, Florida, is renowned for its passionate sports culture, primarily centered around the beloved Florida Gators. However, with the reopening of the Alachua County Sports and Event Center on May 27th, 2023, the city’s sports scene has taken a new turn. This 92,000-square-foot multipurpose facility, nestled in Alachua County, promises to revolutionize the sporting landscape, one athlete at a time. With its state-of-the-art amenities surrounded by premier shopping and dining, this center will quickly become a must-visit destination for youth sports teams from across the region. Alachua County Sports & Events Center has room for 10 basketball courts, 18 volleyball courts, 21 pickleball courts, a dedicated cheer space and a world-class indoor track, the only one of its kind in Florida.

Indulging in Bougie Pursuits

For the Bougie Sports Mom seeking indulgence between games, Gainesville offers a plethora of upscale experiences in Celebration Point, which surrounds the Sports and Event Center. From the best shopping in Gainsville to a wide variety of dining , there’s no shortage of ways to elevate your time between games. Alternatively, after the games have ended for the day, unwind with adult beverage at the bar right inside the sports and event center…(Yes I said it, INSIDE the Alachua Sports and Event Center…that’s a 1st for me too) or walk right over to Fat Tuesday’s  and choose from a wide selection of frozen drinks while enjoying the moment amidst the stylish surroundings. Whether you’re rejuvenating with a massage at Azulene Day Spa II or keeping up your own fitness routine at F45 or Evolve Pilates Based Fitness, this tournament in Gainesville will cater to your refined tastes with flair and sophistication.

Family Fun Beyond the Court

Once the final buzzer sounds and the games conclude for the day, the Bougie Sports Mom can transition seamlessly into family-friendly adventures at Celebration Point’s many family-friendly things to do. Explore one of my family’s favorite spots, Dave and Busters, where we immerse ourselves in arcade games, attempting to outscore our kids every chance we get. Afterward, unwind at the D&B sports bar or walk right over to Millers Ale House, where both options are surrounded by dozens of HDTVs broadcasting various games. Alternatively, gather the team for an exhilarating real-life escape game experience at Escapology, or enjoy a movie night at Regal Cinemas. Another highlight of our tournament city visits is exploring local colleges and universities, so we couldn’t miss the chance to visit the University of Florida, which was also within short driving distance. We marveled at the iconic Ben Hill Griffin Football Stadium, known as the Swamp, and the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, or the O’Dome, where the Gators Basketball team competes. This added experience not only inspires my boys to witness the rewards of hard work and dedication but also encourages them to explore diverse opportunities both on and off the court. These family-friendly attractions in Gainesville ensure that our tournament experience transcends the basketball court, creating lasting memories for the entire family.
